Why My Energy Is No Longer Up and Down (And What Changed)

Over the past few months, something has definitely changed.

Not in a big, dramatic “I feel amazing every day” kind of way…

But in a quieter, more noticeable way:

My energy has become consistent.

What I’ve Actually Noticed

When I really think about it, a lot has shifted:

* I’m waking up feeling fresher

* I’m getting to bed earlier without really trying

* I feel more rested when I wake up, not groggy

* My energy isn’t dipping mid-morning or crashing mid-afternoon

* I don’t need a lunchtime nap anymore

* I’ve gone from having up to 9 coffees a day… to about 2

* My diet has naturally changed — more protein, less snacking

* I’m making better food choices without thinking about it too much

* I’m more productive at work

* I’m setting goals — and actually getting through them

* And overall… there’s just less frustration day to day

On top of that:

* I’ve reduced carbohydrates without forcing it

* I’m eating more protein

* And I’ve lost 6.5kg without really trying to “diet”

None of this has been forced.

It’s just… happened.

What I Used to Think ‘Better Health’ Meant

I think a lot of people (myself included) assume that feeling healthier means:

* Big bursts of energy

* The occasional “really good day”

* And having to give things up —

    Food you enjoy, a glass of wine, sitting on the sofa

But what I’ve noticed is different.

It’s not about feeling amazing all the time…

it’s about not feeling rough anymore.

And more importantly:

The benefits you get from your body working properly far outweigh what you think you’re giving up.

Because when things improve, you don’t feel like you’re missing out.

What’s Actually Changed

If I had to simplify it, I’d say this comes down to the nervous system.

Before, my energy probably looked like this:

* Coffee → boost

* Busy day → push through

* Alcohol → wind down

* Then a bit of a crash

And repeat.

That cycle creates:

* Ups and downs in energy

* Cravings for quick fixes

* Brain fog

* Frustration

Now it just feels… steadier.

Less up and down.

More level throughout the day.

Something I Didn’t Expect (About Food)

I used to think food choices were mostly about discipline.

I don’t think that’s really the case anymore.

A lot of the time, we’re eating to:

* Change how we feel

* Get a quick lift

* Feel a bit more comfortable

So when your energy is all over the place, you naturally:

* Reach for carbs

* Snack more

* Look for something quick

But when things feel more stable:

You just don’t need that in the same way.

That’s exactly what I’ve noticed:

* Less need for quick energy

* More protein without forcing it

* Fewer impulsive choices

The weight loss wasn’t the goal.

It’s just come with everything else settling down.

The Biggest Surprise

This is probably the most interesting part for me.

I don’t feel like I’m pushing myself more.

If anything, I feel like I’m pushing myself less.

But at the same time:

* I’m getting more done

* I’m more focused

* I’m thinking more about the bigger picture

* I feel more flexible mentally

Things feel easier to start.

Easier to follow through.

Less resistance.

One Thing Worth Saying — This Took Time

This didn’t happen overnight.

And I think that’s important.

We’re so used to looking for a quick win — something that makes us feel better instantly.

But real change doesn’t really work like that.

Your body and nervous system adapt over time.

The more you:

* make a small change

* feel a benefit

* repeat it

…the more your system starts to shift.

You start getting feedback:

* better sleep

* better energy

* clearer thinking

And that reinforces the behaviour.

That’s how things start to stick.

Not through one big effort, but through consistent small wins that your body responds to.

What I See With Patients

This is something I see a lot at Angel Chiropractic.

People come in saying:

* “I’m tired all the time”

* “My energy is all over the place”

* “I struggle with food or cravings”

And it often gets put down to:

* lack of discipline

* poor habits

But more often than not, it’s not that.

It’s that the system isn’t settled.

And when that’s the case:

* energy fluctuates

* cravings increase

* it’s harder to stay consistent

Something to Think About

* Does your energy come in waves?

* Do you rely on coffee or food to get you through parts of the day?

* Do your choices depend on how you feel in the moment?

What would it feel like if your energy was just… steady?

How We Approach This in Practice

At Angel Chiropractic, this is exactly what we’re looking at.

If your nervous system isn’t regulating well, everything else becomes harder:

  • Energy fluctuates

  • Sleep is inconsistent

  • Cravings increase

  • Recovery slows down

One of the ways we assess this is through Heart Rate Variability (HRV).

This gives us an objective measure of how well your body is:

  • Adapting to stress

  • Recovering

  • Moving between “stress” and “calm” states

From there, the focus isn’t just on symptoms.

It’s about helping your body:

regulate more effectively, create more calm, and function more consistently

If This Sounds Familiar

If you recognise yourself in this—energy up and down, feeling like you’re constantly trying to keep up—it might not be about pushing harder.

It might be about getting your system working better.

That’s something we look at every day in clinic.

Final Thought

For me, that’s been the real change.

Not feeling “better” occasionally.

Just functioning better — every day.
